The survival course

We met at the schoolyard on Monday at 7:30 am. After a few minutes, that we spent waiting for latecomers, we finally set off. In an hour we arrived at Porač park. We were accommodated (the lucky ones in new, recently reconstructed cottages) and then we almost immediately started.

We were divided into small groups of people and everyone had to accomplish all 6 disciplines: first aid, shooting an air gun, climbing, civil defence, archery and topography. Mrs.Salajová showed us basic medical methods of healing injuries. Mr. Dovčík taught us how to shoot an air gun accurately and we managed archery with Mr. Roško, too. Luckily, we didn’t have any injuries. Then we put our lives in Mr. Brovko’s hands whilst climbing on a climbing wall. Mrs. Toporcerová told us how to manage emergency situations from natural disasters such as a fire and a flood to military attacks. We will never get a chance to get lost in the woods thanks to Mrs. Pemčáková. We did our best, although it was a little chilly and rainy on Tuesday, but we just gritted out teeth and carried on (the truth is we didn’t have much a choice).

Anyway, this is how we spent majority of our first day and Tuesday morning. But we also had a lot of free time that we spent socializing. Some of us did sports like football, tennis and volleyball. We went swimming or we just relaxed in the spa. We played bowling, billiards and we were sitting by the fire in the evenings. On the last day we took our ”final exam”. It was a quiz consisted of theoretical questions in order to test our knowledge from past 2 days. I’m sure we all passed, but only the best ones could win.

Time flew by so fast, that before we knew it, it was time to head home. It seemed too soon to go back on Wednesday morning, but everything has to come to an end. I think we spent 2 amazing days full of fun, new opportunities and great experiences. Great thanks to our teachers for their time and energy.
