Christmas in England

In no more than five days Christmas is here. The most beautiful holiday of the year. People are happier, kids are no more at school. That’s how X-mas is in Slovakia, but what about England?

Christmas Day is celebrated in the United Kingdom on December 25th. It traditionally celebrates Jesus Christ’s birth. People are getting ready to give and receive gifts. They are also making festive cookies and meals like turkey, potatoes and pudding. To make everything look more fancy and festive they decor a Christmas tree, put twinkle lights on the house and Christmas decorations like reindeer on a shelf. They spend this time with family and friends. In houses you can hear typical carols and songs. Presents are brought by Father Christmas or Santa Claus. He leaves them in a stocking or a pillowcase. Usually kids open them in the morning on 25th.It is a public holiday. It is a day off for the general population, schools and most businesses are closed.
